the smell of autumn

When I stepped out of my house this morning, the first thing that hit me was the scent. The smell of autumn in the city is maybe one of my favourite scents of all--which means a lot coming from scent-obsessed me! On this bright but rainy Fall Sunday, I stepped into a perfectly scented day. Crisp air. Mist and fresh ozone. Damp leaves and moist earth. A slightly sweet, lightly floral note floating from the last of the flowers. Rain on asphalt and lingering petrichor. 

There are other fall scents, far more classic. Cider and spices and orchards and pumpkins. I love all of these, of course, but the everyday urban scent of my little street on a rainy fall day beats them all, hands down. It'll never show up as a Dot & Lil scent because I'm not sure it ever could! But I thought you might like to hear about my scent-story.
