sustainability

It was brought to my attention by my jar supplier this week that the jars he has available are now made in China. This didn't used to be the case. Last time I looked into it, the glass I was using was manufactured right here in Canada. It was one of the major reasons I chose to work with glass, as opposed to the cheaper and lighter PET that is the more standard choice and would save me and my customers cash on shipping.
So now I am faced with a decision. Continue to use glass, which is highly reusable and recyclable but is being shipped from across the world, or switch to PET that is more likely to be made closer to home. I feel like, in the end, it's a guess. One may seem greener than the other, but I think that may be mainly based on my preconceived notions of what is green and friendly and what is not. I have been thinking a lot lately about sustainability and how tricky it can be to determine something's actual footprint. If you have any thoughts on this, or any other packaging issue at Dot & Lil, I'd love to talk about it!
